Uvalda Welcomes a New Police Chief


The City Council of Uvalda welcomed Mr. Lewis R. Smith as the city’s new Chief of Police at the regularly held council meeting on May 17, 2011.

Chief Smith was born in Bacon County and has been married to his wife Shelby for 32 years. They have three sons, Kelly Ray, Timothy and Jeffery.

Chief Smith arrived at his Uvalda position already POST certified with the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police. He holds many other certifications including drug-dog handler.

Looking forward to his job, the Chief said that, 'his door will always be open to assist citizens with any problem'  .. and .. 'he plans to work with other agencies in support of Uvalda.' 

Chief Smith said, 'I am excited to be the new Chief of Police for the City of Uvalda. My goals are to provide the best professional law enforcement possible and to maintain Uvalda as a crime-free city. This department will provide equal treatment for everyone and enforce the laws with dignity and respect.'
